sfcanstruction

San Francisco CANstruction is thrilled and extremely appreciative to have the support of SMPS-SFBAC for our second event. It really is a perfect pairing between the two organizations.  For those of you unfamiliar with CANstruction, it is an event put on by the A/E/C industry in cities all over the world.  Architects, engineers and all types of contractors come together to build giant structures out of canned food. This is a design/build competition, so once the sculptures are up, celebrity judges award prizes in various categories. Usually, there is a reception with food, drink and entertainment. Then, the exhibit is open to the public for several days. After that, we have DeCANstruction, where you guessed it – the structures are dismantled and all of those cans are donated to the local food bank.

Last year there were 13 teams. Some were joint ventures and others were made up of employees from a single firm. We raised more than 50,000 pounds of food and nearly $20,000. It was the largest single day can donation the San Francisco Food Bank has ever collected!
This time around we are looking for committed professionals to become SF CANstruction volunteers to head up important aspects of the event:

Public Relations Specialist
Venue Liaison
Food Bank Liaison
Team Liaison
Sponsorship Recruiter*
Reception Coordinator*
Build Out Supervisor*

Public Exhibition Supervisor*
DeCANstruction Supervisor*
Celebrity Judge Recruiter
Volunteer Coordinator
Website Designer
Graphic Designer
Photographers

The * positions will require a team of volunteers to assist. We’re still investigating the best possible time of year for our next event. More to come on that.

Last but certainly not least, what will our theme be for San Francisco’s next Canstruction? It’s a fun one with tons of possibilities. The CANnes Film Festival!!
